CHAMBERLAND LAUNCH 2nd INSTALLMENT AND KICK OFF THE EMPTY SUN TOUR AT THE HI-FI
The much anticipated release of Chamberland’s EP Empty Sun, the second instalment in an ambitious trilogy of EP’s and the follow up to last years acclaimed debut Take Your Place, will be launched at The Hi-Fi in West End in mammoth rock fashion on Saturday 14th August 2010.
The boys returned to renowned Brisbane producer Caleb James, to capture the second act in the trilogy of short releases centred on a single narrative and protagonist.
“Caleb was instrumental in shaping our release, Take Your Place, which we launched last September. His familiarity with our vision for the CD, the narrative and conceptual content and our general approach to writing and recording has really served us well.” Ross Dowling the band’s vocalist and lyricist explained.
“As the second part to the story, we had a very clear sense sonically of the direction and mood we were looking for with this CD, and Caleb has really outdone himself not only in bringing this out in the music, but to challenge us as musicians to take this release to a different place to the last.”
Take Your Place has been well received by both the Chamberland faithful and newcomers alike.
Described by the press as “Sabbath and Deep Purple stripped down, rebuilt and hot-rodded for a new generation” in a package that “kicks like a steroid-munching mule”, Empty Sun builds on Take Your Place in a release that captures Chamberland’s well-known intensity in a much darker, brooding and often times delicate CD.
“This time last year we were putting the finishing touches on the overall storyline, so it is amazing to reach this stage of the process and actually hear the second act come to fruition,” says Doug Rout, the band’s bass player.
Having played the live music scene around South East Queensland for nearly a decade, the band have been prolific both in their performances and in the studio, with Empty Sun marking the bands fifth studio recording in as many years.
Doug explains, “We’ve been in the studio plenty of times, but it feels as though we have matured a lot over the last year, which I think is evident in the new songs. The chemistry recording with Caleb again has allowed us to take another step forward creatively as a band to further explore and define our sound.”
“The challenge now is to do the songs justice on stage, and we’re heavily focussed on getting our set together for both the launch and the tour.” says Doug.
With shows scheduled for Brisbane to Melbourne and everywhere in between, this release will see Chamberland hit the road for their first tour.
“While we’ve played plenty of shows interstate, this is the first real string of shows back to back. We all work full-time, with families and the usual responsibilities, so it’s always been difficult to balance the whole family/work/band commitments,” explains lead guitarist Shannon O’Leary.
“But at the end of the day, we’re most excited about playing at The Hi-Fi. It’s such an amazing venue, and as a local act, we’ve really backed ourselves having the launch there,” says Shannon.
With a line-up yet to be announced, it is anticipated that the launch will showcase some of Brisbane’s finest musical talents.
The show is an over 18’s and licensed event at The Hi-Fi, 125 Boundary Street, West End, Brisbane on Saturday 14th August 2010.
Doors open at 7:30pm.
Tickets are $15 at the door, or $13.50 pre-purchased online from www.thehifi.com.au.
