The Wots-On Developer API (application programming interface) - or as we call it: A Gig Guide API - allows you to access our database of event information to display within your own website or application. Results are currently returned in an XML Document (a JSON version may follow).
We have endevoured to add a great deal of rich functionality and usability into our API to help make things easy for developers to integrate the API data into their mobile or web apps.
API Features
Using the Developer API you can interface directly with the Wots-On database and allow your site visitors or application users to:
- View upcoming events by location, location+category
- Search for events by keyword
- View a list of Locations with upcoming events
All basic event information is shown. including: Event titles, Basic event descriptions, Event dates, Event locations, Event categories, Thumbnail images, and a URL to event information page at wots-on.info - plus more.
- The ability for developers to limit the resulting document to only the fields of interest (this approach creates documents that are smaller and much more efficient).
- The API also "offers a function that is called 'change' which lets the developer modify the name of one or more XML elements or attributes in the output at request time. This is all done in the query string and the API transforms the markup accordingly in real-time."
API Limits
While there are
currently No set limits on the amount of calls you can make to our API, if your application is excessive in consuming its resources we may implement a cap on your account and/or contact you about what can be done to deal with the situation.
Note
The API's 'event database' is updated ONCE per day.
